About Traditional Brocade

Izutsu has been making and selling finely woven silk brocade for Buddhist priest robes, temple tapestries, traditional court costume and so on for more than 300 years. Our ‘Daikonya’ weaving workshop is located in the heart of Nishijin, Kyoto’s historic weaving district. Here we still weave traditional brocade, mainly for the major Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines throughout the country. We use a mix of traditional and modern weaving techniques to create the finest brocades possible. We also research and re-develop lost techniques used in centuries past to recreate authentic textiles not seen in our time.
